Diego Costa has told our in-house TV
channel he was delighted to figure in our final game of an incredible
campaign, and hopes to return in even better condition for more success
next season.
The striker played the first 40 minutes of our 1-0 win against Sydney FC in Australia, and will fly home to London with the rest of the squad on Wednesday morning.
Diego Costa still walked away with the man of the match award at the ANZ Stadium, despite not finding the net, an indication of the love felt for the Brazilian-born Spain international by Blues fans all over the world.
He reflected afterwards with Chelsea TV, and said he was relieved to figure in these end-of-season games in Thailand and Australia after injury problems in recent months.
‘I was glad to play,’ said the 26-year-old. ‘I’ve been injured for a while, it’s important to play and I was really glad to get a game in before finishing for the season.
‘It’s an amazing experience, two different cultures, firstly in Thailand and here in Australia. I have memories from this tour I will take with me for the rest of my life.’
Looking back on 20 Premier League goals, the league title and the Capital One Cup, Diego Costa believes he can be satisfied with his first season in England.
‘It’s really good to come in the first season and win two things,’ he said. ‘It’s really important and next year I’ll be ready to come back and hopefully win a couple more trophies.’
Finally, he was asked to comment on news reports suggesting he was unhappy in England.
‘[It is] quite a simple answer,’ he said. ‘It’s always a bit more difficult in the first season for adaptation, but I have no reason to leave this place, I love it, the fans love me and I want to stay.’
We all look forward to plenty more goals from Chelsea’s number 19.
